Control Cable Selection

Control Cable Selection for Honda BF8, BF9.9, and BF10 Outboard Motors

When selecting control cables for Honda BF8, BF9.9, and BF10 outboard motors, it's crucial to consider several factors to ensure smooth operation and safety.

1. Mounting Location

Select a mounting location that allows easy access and unrestricted operation of the control lever. Ensure that there are no obstructions between the remote control box and the outboard motor. Typically, the remote control box is mounted on the starboard side, but it can be adapted to a reversed control lever position if needed.

It's recommended to mount the remote control box near a corner of the front seat, with the control lever positioned in the neutral position. The bottom of the remote control box should align with the upper surface of the seat. If there's insufficient play in the operating lever, insert a shim between the box and the installation surface.

2. Cable Bending Diameter

Ensure that the bending diameter of the cable is never less than 400 mm. Routing the cable in a tight arc can increase resistance on the control lever, making smooth throttle operation difficult. This could potentially lead to a loss of control over the craft. Therefore, it's essential to maintain a minimum bending diameter to prevent such issues.

3. Cable Length Calculation

Calculate the cable length to allow unrestricted operation, even when the outboard motors are tilted or turned to one side. If the cable length is insufficient, it's imperative to replace it with one of the correct length. Failure to do so could result in restricted movement and compromised control, posing safety risks.

By following these guidelines for control cable selection, you can ensure optimal performance and safety when operating Honda BF8, BF9.9, and BF10 outboard motors.
